Metroplex At A Glance
The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex is a thriving, diverse and dynamic place to call home. From a day at the park to a night at the symphony, the area is many things to many people. We have some of the most charming and friendly people in the nation while maintaining a leading-edge business climate and a booming real estate industry.
Fortune magazine has called the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex the nation’s “dream location” for business and “the most diverse and dynamic economic base in the U.S.” With roots in agriculture, oil and manufacturing, today the area is a major center for real estate and development, banking and finance, electronics and high technology, wholesale and retail trade, health care, aviation, transportation and shipping, international commerce, conventions and tourism.
Downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth are 25 miles apart with booming suburbs surrounding the two cities. The suburbs are filled with recreation, entertainment and quaint communities to suit a variety of taste. D/FW International Airport is the largest airport in the nation and the second busiest in the world. The Metroplex offers championship professional sports, exquisite shopping, exciting nightlife, educational museums, beautiful homes… There is something for everyone. If you are looking for a night at the rodeo or a night at the opera, a barbeque lunch or a five-star restaurant, a day of shopping or a day in the country, you will find it all in Dallas/Fort Worth!

The third largest sports facility in the world, Texas Motor Speedway
Texas’ class I horse track, Lone Star Park,
American Airlines Center is the new home of the NHL Dallas Stars and the NBA Dallas Mavericks. American Airlines Center will be the premier sports and entertainment venue in the country.
The Cotton Bowl Stadium hosts the annual Cotton Bowl Classic college football game.
Sports, from professional to college to interscholastic to community, abound in the Metroplex. The area provides a sports club for almost any activity imaginable.
Transportation
Getting around the Metroplex is made easier with major highways that intersect within the city. The freeway system provides well-kept corridors for access to all parts of the Metroplex.
The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) system provides bus service for Dallas and most of the surrounding 13 communities. The system curently combines bus and rail. DART plans to have 66 miles of light rail in full operation by 2010. Fort Worth has a similar transit system known as “The T.”
Two major airports are located within the area, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Love Field Airport, which is home to Southwest Airlines providing service throughout Texas and the four bordering states.
Three new airports will help double Metroplex aircraft operations by the year 2005, including Alliance Airport, a large commercial field north of Fort Worth.
Amtrak provides rail travel throughout Texas and the U.S. It is the sixth largest carrier of passengers in the U.S.
Education
D/FW offers a wide variety of choices in education. No matter what your age, interest or intellectual level, there is a school for you, from kindergarten to graduate school.
More than 60 school districts are located in the Metroplex. Each school district in Texas is bound by codes and requirements of the Texas Education Agency. Districts vary according to special services and programs available and in number and type of classes they offer.
The Metroplex is home to more than 200 private schools ranging from the traditional to the innovative and catering to a wide range of academic and economic abilities.
There are five public universities and 19 private colleges and universities offering bachelors’, masters’ and doctorate programs.Three community college districts serve the area, providing community education, certifications and associate degrees.
Recreation
There are endless options when it comes to recreation in Dallas/Fort Worth. The warm weather, sunshine, and plenty of outdoor recreational facilities help make the Metrtoplex a great place to live.
Lakes around the Metroplex provide more than 490,000 acres of open water for boating, fishing, skiing and swimming.
When you are ready to see nature at its finest, take a trip to the Dallas Arboretum, Cedar Ridge Preserve, The Dallas Zoo, Fort Worth Botanical and Japanese Gardens and the The Fort Worth Zoo.
Entertainment
You’re never without entertainment in Dallas/Fort Worth. Unique cultural events are available to suit virtually every taste.
From The Kimbell Art Museum and The Dallas Museum of Art to the performing arts to nightlife, activities are available to all. On any given weekend, there are live concerts to suit any musical taste from classical to country.
The visual and peforming arts in the Metroplex attract national and international attention. Both Dallas and Fort Worth have established arts districts which are home to museums and theaters, and many of the area communities offer their own festivals, art, dance, drama, theater and music.
