A recent report published by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) on May 22, 2008 reported that while the decline of house prices in most of the country accelerated in the first quarter, the Dallas area increased 3.76% from the same period of 2007.
“The large overhang of real estate inventory awaiting sale continues to force price declines in many areas.” But in the DFW area, housing inventories have declined slightly from a year ago, which has reduced downward pressure on prices. Dr. James Gaines, an economist with Texas A&M University’s Real Estate Center, said “falling inventory is a major plus” for the Dallas-Fort Worth market.
